FreeDatingIndex is an independent consumer-advocacy index and paywall transparency platform. Our mission is simple: to document and expose dating apps that advertise as "free to download" but lock basic messaging, matching, and reading utilities behind subscription tiers and coin microtransactions.

1. 5-Factor Score Rubric

Every platform cataloged in our directory is audited and receives a transparent score between 1.0 and 5.0 stars, based on the following weighted criteria:

• Messaging Accessibility (30% Weight): Can free users message each other? We award 5.0 for 100% free unlimited messaging; 4.0-4.6 for mutual match messaging; and below 3.0 if reading/sending messages is locked behind billing pages.
• Paywall Transparency (25% Weight): Does the app trick users by blurring incoming "likes" to force subscription actions? We deduct points for predatory blurry matching patterns.
• Barrier to Entry (20% Weight): Does the app mandate entering billing details or credit card profiles upfront to access basic swiping?
• Match UX & User Quality (15% Weight): We inspect ad clutter density, profile verification processes, and user report history on subreddits.
• Demographic Inclusivity (10% Weight): We audit dedicated, zero-cost communication loops for LGBTQ+ individuals and mature seniors.

2. Independence Pledge

While we utilize affiliate networking redirects (CPL/CPA leads) to support serverless edge hosting costs, our star ratings and audits are completely independent. We never adjust scores or remove billing trap warnings in exchange for sponsor placements. Platforms that lock messaging are always given low scores, regardless of their partner status.
